Estuary Immersion (Two Groups, senior on Thursdays, Juniors on Fridays.)
Overview:
The Elementary Science Immersion Club is a twelve-week program for home-learners, held every Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Cowichan Estuary Nature Center. This program is designed to immerse elementary-aged students in science through hands-on research, field journaling, interactive learning, and creative exploration.

Week 1: Introduction to the Estuary and its Ecosystem
Week 2: Plant Life and Botany in the Estuary
Week 3: Insects and Small Creatures
Week 4: Birds of the Estuary
Week 5: Marine Life and the Touch Tank Experience
Week 6: Water Quality and Conservation
Week 7: Soil and Sediment Studies
Week 8: Weather and Climate Impact
Week 9: Human Impact and Restoration Efforts
Week 10: Indigenous Knowledge and Practices
Week 11: Creative Science Projects and Experiments
Week 12: Celebration and Presentation of Learnings
Additional Notes:
Each session includes time for hands-on research and exploration in the natural surroundings of the estuary.
Students will maintain a field journal (provided) to record their observations, reflections, and learnings.
In-center learning activities will vary weekly, including guest speakers, educational videos, and interactive experiences with the touch tank.
The program encourages a balance of structured learning and free exploration to foster a love for science and nature.
